Mehmet Dânâ, the Turkish Cypriot Representative in New York.
Mehmet Dânâ was born on 7 July 1973 in Nicosia.
Dânâ graduated from Turk Maarif Koleji in 1991. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations from Bilkent University in 1995 and his Master’s Degree in London at Westminster University in the field of Diplomacy in 1996.
After completing his Master’s, he served in the army as an interpreter between the years of 1996 – 1998. Later on, he worked as an instructor at the Near East University where he taught Diplomacy and History of Civilizations until 1999.
He started his career at the TRNC Ministry of Foreign Affairs in June 1999 at the Department of Political Affairs. He also completed a three-month course on Diplomacy organized by the Ministry of Affairs of Pakistan in 2000.
His first overseas posting was to the TRNC Representation in London where he served for two years. Later on he served at the Office of the TRNC Representative in New York between 2003 and 2005. After his return to Nicosia in 2005, he was assigned to the Office of the TRNC Presidency where he also served as a member of the Turkish Cypriot Negotiation Team during Cyprus talks.
In 2010, following his term in the Presidency, he took up a senior position at the Department of Political Affairs and Information as well as at the Department of Research and Policy Planning in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He was appointed as Director/Representative in December 2011.
Dânâ has been appointed as the Representative of the TRNC in New York as of December 2013.
He is fluent in English.
He is married with two kids.
